After a month’s consolidation, DES is the highest-rated show on ITV this year. It opened on 14th September with 5.6 million viewers and 32% of the audience share. After 28 days’ catch-up the show has reached an audience of almost 12 million, with an average of 10.7 million per episode and 519,000 tuning in on non-TV devices.
Broadcast over three consecutive nights and starring David Tennant, Daniel Mays and Jason Watkins, the show received critical praise as a ‘sensitive, finely worked piece’ (Guardian). It’s been an unpredictable year for the industry, but the success of the programme is testament to the continued value of the true-crime miniseries.
In addition to topping the channel’s leader-board for the year, DES consolidated as the most-watched show on BBC1/ITV in September 2020.
